Display

Our aim is to provide the public with a rich source of cultural and natural history experiences. Our displays are set in some of Kimberley’s enchanting historic buildings and other fascinating locations.

At the Atlas Street museum, the Siege Gallery, Convent School display, Hotel Belgrave Room as well as the Kimberley Regiment, amongst others, came to life during the Night at the Museum events in 2007 and 2017.

Renovations done in 2007 at the Alexander McGregor Memorial Museum in Chapel Street, included four new displays namely Malay Camp, Kimberley Firsts, Kimberley Schools and Churches and the History of Kimberley.

The Duggan-Cronin Gallery houses valuable photographic collections. The Thanda Bantu exhibition features A.M. Duggan-Cronin’s work. This venue hosts temporary exhibitions yearly.

During 2020-21 an additional display Landscape of Loss & Re-Membering was installed at Wildebeest Kuil Rock Art Centre.

Together with researchers and collection managers, the display team is responsible for the development and design, as well as the maintenance, of all the museum and satellite museum displays. The museum’s workshop team assists with all our installations.

Graphic design work and large format printing consumes a large portion of our time. The layout, design and printing of the museum’s annual report, museum signage, digital invitations, brochures and display publications are done by our display team.  We also assist the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, Northern Cape Legislature and the general public with design, printing and lamination.
