In the Display & Design Section our prime aim is to provide the public with a rich source of cultural and natural history experiences. Our displays are set in some of Kimberley’s enchanting historic buildings and other fascinating locations.
At the Atlas Street location, the Journey to Democracy and World War I – Battle of Square Hill permanent displays are the 2 most recent additions. The Frontier & Ancestors Gallery, Enviro Zone, Convent School Display, Siege Gallery and Hall of Religions are all popular attractions and a constant source of reference to schools, local and foreign visitors.
Renovations done in 2007 at the Alexander McGregor Memorial Museum in Chapel Street, includes five new displays namely Malay Camp, Kimberley Firsts, Kimberley Schools and Churches, History of Kimberley and Kimberley Artists and Writers.
The Duggan-Cronin Gallery, houses the valuable photographic work by Alfred M. Duggan-Cronin in the excellent Thanda Bantu permanent exhibition. This is also the venue for some of our annual program of temporary exhibitions.
Together with researchers and collection managers, this section is responsible for the maintenance and development of all the permanent, temporary and travelling displays.
Desktop and design work comprise the bulk of our daily routine. We produce material for professional officers to be used at conferences and for publications such as the museum’s Annual Report, brochures, booklets and signage. Our display panels are produced with our large format printer.
We endeavour to produce display and design work of high quality.
